Setting Up DNS Records for Cold Emailing

Here is a quick read on what needs to be setup before getting started with cold email.

Welcome to Yannick’s Marketing Newsletter!

This week, we're focusing on setting up your domain's email system and DNS records with GoDaddy - a crucial step for effective cold emailing.

Email Setup on GoDaddy:

Setting up your domain’s email on GoDaddy is straightforward. Ensure your domain is registered, then navigate to the Email Management section to configure your email accounts. Be sure to link all domains to each other after every email you make.

Required DNS Records:

  • SPF (Sender Policy Framework): SPF records help in preventing email spoofing. It specifies which mail servers are permitted to send email on behalf of your domain.

  • DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail): DKIM adds an encrypted signature to your emails, adding trust to your email's origin.

  • DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance): This record ensures emails are authenticated against SPF and DKIM policies, improving email security.

  • Tracking Domain: A subdomain used exclusively for tracking the behavior of your email recipients, crucial for analyzing the effectiveness of your campaigns.

Setting Up DNS Records:

  • Access DNS Management: In GoDaddy, access the DNS Management page for your domain.

  • Add Records: Add each record (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) with the specific values needed to authenticate your emails and improve deliverability. The values of each record can be found in Microsoft’s Admin Exchange Center. You will need to login with one of the new emails you just created in the previous steps and go through each domain one by one.

This Week's To-Do List:

  • Set up an email for each domain in GoDaddy.

  • Ensure SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and Tracking Domain records are properly added.

  • Use verification tools to check the setup of your DNS records.

  • Familiarize yourself with email compliance standards.

Setting up these foundational elements correctly is key to the success of your cold emailing campaigns. Get these right, and you’re on your way to generating leads for your company!

Until our next edition.
